Every summer, millions of people and parcels travel across France, putting additional pressure on road transport and increasing emissions. Electric Road Systems (ERS) offer a breakthrough solution to keep goods and passengers moving—without the environmental cost.
ERS technology enables electric buses and trucks to charge seamlessly while driving, eliminating the need for frequent stops and reducing reliance on oversized batteries. This approach not only improves efficiency but also supports large-scale decarbonization of the transport sector.
A 2021 report to the French Ministry of Transport, co-authored by Patrick Pelata, outlined a roadmap to equip 9,000 kilometers of French motorways with ERS infrastructure in two phases. The projected benefits are significant:
- Up to 85% fewer emissions from freight transport.
- Reduced demand for critical raw materials thanks to smaller battery requirements.
Such findings reinforce why ERS solutions—like those developed by EVIAS—are among the most effective pathways toward a sustainable and resilient transport system.
